The Story of the 3 Yearlings
The 3 Yearlings Website is the place for every adult who loves horses. We are three women who did not start riding till our 30’s and 40’s. We met at an Adult Week at The Vershire Riding School in Vermont. We became fast friends that week, bonding over the fact that we each had just started riding as adults and were brought to Vershire hoping to find others who understood and felt the deep connection. We affectionately named ourselves “The Yearlings” (since each of us had been riding for a year or less) and gave ourselves full permission to behave like 8-year old horse obsessed girls for the week. We each found a sense of freedom in this, despite being highly accomplished in our own career areas. We made art, mucked stalls, and cheered each other on: women lifting each other up.
After camp, we stayed in touch--having monthly “yearling calls” as we affectionately named them. We went to Greece together to go horseback riding, we went to camp two more times and kept an all things horse text chain for the last three years. On a Yearling call in December 2018 we lamented over the fact that we don't (and likely won't) be able to afford a horse anytime soon...or really even a lease for that matter... We also lamented over that we felt starved for a website to nerd out over horse things that don't require horse ownership...and wanted a place where other adult beginner riders could share their experiences and adventures with learning to ride. And the idea was born! A website to put all our passion, geeking out, 8 year old horse love! Welcome to Three Yearlings. We're happy you're here.
